#Engage, Energize,& Educate
January 22nd, 2026
Dear Families,
We are excited to share that the PVES Spelling Bee will take place on January 28th and will feature our 4th and 5th grade participants.
The event will be livestreamed on January 28th at 1:45 pm, allowing families to watch and support our students from home. More details about the livestream will be shared closer to the event. To access the livestream go to https://pleasantview.smithfield-ps.org/ and click on the Quick Links tab and then click on Pleasant View TV.
We are proud of our students’ hard work and look forward to cheering them on!
National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)
The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). NAEP is an educational assessment, often called The Nation’s Report Card, that provides national, state, and district-level information about student achievement.
NAEP has selected 50 fourth-grade students from our school to participate. If your child was selected, you received a notification two weeks ago. Students will take the assessment in either math or reading on January 28th from 9:00-11:00 a.m.

Toys
Please encourage your child to keep all toys at home. We are still seeing a lot of toys coming out of students' lunchboxes during lunch. Thank you for your cooperation.
Snacks
As a reminder, please be sure your child is coming to school each day with a packed snack. We are currently providing more than 10 snacks per day to students, and we want to ensure we can reserve school-provided snacks for students who truly need them.
We also encourage you to check in with your child about their snacks. Our students are growing and learning all day, and many need more than one snack to stay energized and focused.
Thank you for your continued support in helping our students be ready to learn.
Lost & Found
There are still a large number of hats, jackets and sweatshirts in our Lost & Found. Please be sure to write your child’s name on all belongings. All unclaimed items will be donated on Wednesday, February 3rd.
