Safe Walk Zones
SMITHFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS
November 2012Dear Parents of Middle and High School Students in “Walk Zones”:
You are aware that the Smithfield School Committee created “walk zones” for students at the middle school and high school. These walk zones are:
All streets in the Indian Run Trail area
All streets off Tunmore Road known as the “Woods Plat” area
Both sides of Austin Avenue from Route 44 up to, but not including, Appletown Road
Both sides of Pleasant View Avenue from Route 44 to the Middle and High School.
Both sides of Pleasant View Avenue from Log & Pleasant View Avenue to the Middle and High School.
Through the assistance and cooperation of DATTCO Transportation, we will be able to make transportation accommodations for Middle School and High School students who live in the “walk zones” when the sidewalks are impassable as a result of the State plowing the snow from the street onto the sidewalks. The following is a list of the bus routes. In the morning buses will pick up students at designated stops according to the following schedule: (Middle School and High School students will be transported home at the end of the school day to the stops listed below.)
Bus 1 Austin Avenue and Douglas Circle 7:05 AM-7:15AM
Bus 2 Pleasant View Avenue and Mowry Road 7:05 AM-7:15AM
Bus 3 Pleasant View Avenue and Tunmore Road 7:05 AM-7:15AM
Bus 8 (2 stops)
Pleasant View Avenue and Nimitz Drive 7:05 AM-7:15AM
